Switching Spike Plasticity Shapes ACE2 Engagement Across SARS‐CoV‐2 Variants

ABSTRACT Conformational plasticity allows class I viral fusion proteins, including the SARS‐CoV‐2 spike, to undergo major structural rearrangements that support receptor binding and membrane fusion, making them key vaccine and antiviral targets. Using high‐speed atomic force microscopy (AFM) and single‐molecule force s...

Structures of asymmetric particles of tick-borne encephalitis virus provide insight into flavivirus assembly and maturation

It is shown that many particles of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) are asymmetric and lack subsets of surface heterodimers, explaining how flaviviruses can be neutralized by antibodies that bind to regions of E proteins normally inaccessible in the spiky or herringbone structures.
