Kinetic asymmetry drives directionality in an ATP-binding cassette transporter

Two conserved ionic locks within the nucleotide-binding domains that govern transition barriers and energy transduction are identified: an intra-subunit inward-facing (IF)-lock and an inter-subunit outward-facing (OF)-lock.
