Performance and label efficiency of traditional deep-learning models and a retina-specific foundation model for ocular and systemic disease detection: a retrospective comparative study.

BACKGROUND RETFound, a self-supervised retina-specific foundation model, has shown potential in downstream tasks, but its performance in comparison with that of traditional deep-learning models remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate RETFound against three supervised deep-learning models (ResNet50, ViT-Base, and SwinV2)...

Detecting Glaucoma Across Multi-ethnic Myopic and Non-Myopic Populations Using an Uncertainty-Aware Vision Transformer: A Multicentre Model Development and Validation Study

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI)-based glaucoma detection from colour fundus photographs (CFP) offers scalable screening, but performance may decline on external datasets because of differences in ground-truth definitions, populations, and coexisting conditions such as high myopia (HM). We developed and validat...

Development of a predictive model for visual outcomes and risk factors of bilateral involvement for non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) in Chinese patients

Hyperlipidemia, hematologic disorders, and smoking were significant risk factors for bilateral NAION, whereas the severity of vision loss at onset, diabetes mellitus, hyperhomocysteinemia, and macular serous detachment were associated with poor visual prognosis in Chinese patients with NAION.
