AHAS structural changes caused by mutations result in differences in binding affinity and resistance to two herbicides in Cyperus difformis L.

As a malignant weed in paddy systems, Cyperus difformis L. (C. difformis) has evolved resistance to acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS, EC 2.2.1.6), also known as acetolactate synthase (ALS), inhibiting herbicides such as pyrazosulfuron-ethyl and bensulfuron-methyl due to prolonged selection pressure. This study systemati...

First report of Quizalofop-p-ethyl resistance in Eriochloa villosa involving non-target-site mechanisms.

BACKGROUND The emergence and spread of herbicide-resistant weeds pose a major challenge to sustainable weed management strategies. As a troublesome grass weed in soybean and maize agroecosystems, Eriochloa villosa (Thunb.) Kunth has attracted increasing attention, but the mechanism of its resistance to herbicides that...

Engineering glyphosate-resistant watermelon by prime editing.

Editing the watermelon EPSPS gene using a prime editing platform with visible markers created a non-transgenic glyphosate-resistant line. These robust heterozygous mutants tolerate field-level herbicide doses without growth penalties, serving as ideal parental lines for crop breeding.
