Genome mining of alkaliphilic cyanobacterial consortia: identification of biosynthetic gene clusters in Sodalinema and associated heterotrophs
Functional partitioning within the consortia of Sodalinema dominates enriched consortia from Canadian soda lakes is indicated and heterotrophic bacteria encode most of the pathways for antimicrobial and signaling compounds, which may support community stability and defense against competing microorganisms.
