Broad-Spectrum, Cell Envelope-Active Marinocyclin Antibiotics From a Coral-Derived Bacterium Are Effective Against Colistin-Resistant Bacteria.

A novel class of lipopeptides with exceptional antibiotic activity, named marinocyclins, isolated from Aquimarina megaterium EL43 associated with the octocoral Eunicella labiata is reported, position marinocyclins as a promising new scaffold for antibiotic development and highlight the potential of Aquimarina spp.

Culturable yeasts associated to different life stages of the farmed red seaweed Porphyra dioica

The culturable yeast fraction associated with five life stages of the red macroalga Porphyra dioica cultivated in an Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system is characterized and establishes a basis for future studies addressing the role of yeasts in macroalgal performance cultivated under IMTA systems.
