Literature Review on the Design and Implementation of Virtual World Environments for Intercultural Communicative Competence in Language Learning

A thematic review of 27 peer-reviewed articles was conducted following PRISMA guidance and framed by Byram’s model of ICC, asking how VWEs are employed for ICC training, what implementation and design strategies enhance their effectiveness, and what challenges hinder their use.
