Establishing wastewater-based SARS-CoV-2 variant surveillance independent of clinical isolates

It is demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 variants can be detected in wastewater sequencing data without prior lineage classification and revealed the rising prevalence during the first surges of the Omicron variant.
