Reverse genetics system for emerging tick-borne orthonairovirus highlights dispensable N-terminal region of Gn associated with replication in tick vectors

A growing number of emerging and re-emerging tick-borne orthonairoviruses belonging to the Sulina and Tamdy genogroups have recently been identified in association with febrile diseases in East Asia. Yezo virus (YEZV) is one such viruses and is genetically distinct from well- characterized Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fev...

No evidence of H5N1 avian influenza virus infection in Japanese horses in 2025.

The global spillover of clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus into mammalian hosts has become a public health concern as well as to the equine industry. However, previous reports on H5N1 natural infection and the presence of specific antibodies in horses remain limited. Therefore, we conducted a s...

High pathogenicity avian influenza A (H5N1) viruses isolated from poultry and wild birds in Japan during the 2024–2025 season

The findings underscore ongoing genetic diversification of HPAI viruses in G2d and G2c subgroups and highlight the importance of continued in vivo and in vitro characterization of these viruses to monitor changes in genotypes, pathogenicity, and potential risk of spillover to cattle.
