Theta-frequency subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation selectively improves visual attention in Parkinson’s disease

Objective Visual attention deficits are common but under-recognized in Parkinson’s disease (PD), and we investigate whether theta-frequency (5 Hz) STN-DBS differentially modulates visual attention compared with high-frequency (130 Hz) stimulation in PD patients. Methods Thirty-nine PD patients with bilateral STN-DBS pe...

Direct Substantia Nigra Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease: Efficacy, Safety, and the Frequency-Response Relationship.

Direct SN stimulation produced a clear frequency-dependent acute response in PD, with 130 Hz yielding the strongest motor and spatial gait benefits among the tested frequencies and effects of similar magnitude to standard STN stimulation.
