TL;DR

A new species of Macrotomia from section Munbuya from Kyrgyzstan (Western Tian Shan) is described, which is close to Macrotomia euchromos, the most widespread species in Middle Asia, but differs from it in corolla color, as well as in its distribution in a lower mountain zone, an earlier flowering and fruiting time.

Abstract

The paper provides a description of a new species of Macrotomia from section Munbuya from Kyrgyzstan (Western Tian Shan). Genus Macrotomia is a small group of species of the Boraginaceae family distributed from the Himalayas to Asia Minor and southern Europe (Greece). The exact number of species in the genus is unknown, due to the fact that a number of names are critical, and this taxon itself is often considered part of the genus Arnebia. The new species is close to Macrotomia euchromos, the most widespread species in Middle Asia, but differs from it in corolla color, as well as in its distribution in a lower mountain zone, an earlier flowering and fruiting time. According to our data, the new species is endemic to the Bosbu-Too Mountains (Western Tian Shan) but can be found on the adjacent Atoynok Mt. Ridge.

A cryptic new species in the Cyrtorchis ringens complex (Orchidaceae, Angraecinae)

Recent morphological and phylogenetic studies highlighted the paraphyly of Cyrtorchis sect. Homocolleticon, in which Cyrtorchis ringens sensu lato constitutes a polyphyletic species complex. In this complex, three morphogroups were distinguished, representing putative new taxa. Here, we describe one of these new taxa b...

A new old species of Tetracera (Dilleniaceae) from Espinhaço Range, Brazil

Tetracera is the only genus within Dilleniaceae with a pantropical distribution. During efforts for a taxonomic revision of the neotropical species, we identified incongruences between application of names and their taxonomic identities, based on protologue and type specimen analysis. Here we describe a new species for...

Hyalinostachys guangxiensis, a novel species from a Broad-Leaved forest in Southwest China

Stachybotryaceae (Hypocreales, Sordariomycetes) is a genus-rich, highly diverse family with a worldwide distribution across terrestrial and aquatic habitats. Hyalinostachys is a monotypic genus, with its type species, H. cylindrospora, isolated from bamboo. In this study, two fungal isolates were collected from decayin...

Three new species of Thelymitra (Diurideae, Orchidaceae) endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand

Three new species of sun orchid (Thelymitra) endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand are here described: T. palustris, T. scabrifolia and T. semaphora. The morphological distinctiveness of these three species has been acknowledged for decades; however, their taxonomic status has remained unresolved. Evidence from existing kary...

Nigropunctata xishuangbannaensis sp. nov. (Pallidoperidiaceae, Xylariales), a new species from bamboo in Yunnan, China

Nigropunctata xishuangbannaensis sp. nov. is introduced in this study, isolated from decaying bamboo culms in Yunnan Province, China. Multigene phylogenetic analyses based on five loci (ITS, LSU, rpb2, tub2, and tef1-α) place this taxon in a well-supported, distinct lineage clearly separated from closely related specie...
