The Role of Family Dynamics in Adolescent Behavior

2021 · International Journal of Innovative Research in Humanities & Technology · Vol 4, pp. 01-15 · 0 citations

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage involving biological, cognitive, emotional, and social changes. This study examines how family dynamics influence adolescent behavioral outcomes, focusing on parenting styles, communication patterns, emotional climate, family cohesion, adaptability, and conflict resolution. Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey of adolescents aged 13–18 from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, the research analyzes relationships between family functioning and behaviors such as academic performance, emotional stability, social engagement, and risk behavior. Statistical methods including correlation and regression analysis were used to identify predictive patterns. The findings indicate that authoritative parenting, open communication, and strong emotional cohesion are linked to better academic achievement, emotional resilience, and positive social behavior, while family conflict, inconsistent discipline, and authoritarian control are associated with aggression, risk behavior, and academic disengagement. The study highlights the importance of supportive family environments, effective communication, and evidence-based parenting strategies to promote healthy adolescent development and psychosocial well-being.
