Abstract
This study calibrated key contact parameters for discrete element simulations of interactions among Panax notoginseng seedlings, lateritic soil, and 65Mn steel to address the lack of systematic multi-media parameter calibration methods. The researchers investigated three core contact interfaces using EDEM software, focusing on JKR surface energy, restitution coefficient, static friction coefficient, and rolling friction coefficient. They employed angle of repose tests, mixture collapse tests, and inclined plane rolling tests, combined with orthogonal design and response surface methodology, to establish correlation models between simulation and physical results. Through analysis of variance and multi-objective optimization, the team identified significant parameters and their optimal combinations for each interface. Validation showed that the optimized model exhibited relative errors below 7.5% across all tests, with prediction accuracy improved by over 30%. Field experiments further confirmed the model's reliability, providing theoretical support for structural optimization of Panax notoginseng transplanters.
Discrete element model (DEM) parameters are crucial for accurately predicting soil properties and disturbance levels. This study aimed to provide an efficient method for accurately determining DEM parameters for paddy soil. The Hertz-Mindlin and JKR contact models were used to simulate the paddy soil, and the Plackett-...

A DEM model of the soil covering–compaction process during the precision sowing of Panax notoginseng was established.
The interactions among the seed, soil, and soil covering–compaction device were simulated using a DEM.
The relative error between the DEM simulation and soil bin tests was only 6.0...

Due to the anisotropy and small size of wheat roots, as well as the neglect of shear process effects on mechanical properties in existing wheat root-soil composite (WRSC) models, the establishment and parameter calibration of WRSC models remain inaccurate, hindering the precise analysis of the microscopic effects of fu...
Panax notoginseng is a high-value medicinal rhizome crop widely cultivated in the hilly and mountainous regions of southwest China, where traditional manual harvesting remains labor-intensive and inefficient. To address these challenges, this study focuses on the design, kinematic analysis, optimization, and validation...

Abstract Atterberg-limit testing is fundamental to geotechnical characterization, although the number of determinations may be limited in routine infrastructure investigations by the available testing programme. This study applies and validates previously established regional regression relationships for predicting the...
