Abstract

Sedimentation in river channels may increase lateral earth pressure and reduce slope stability around hydraulic structures. However, studies concerning the effect of sediment accumulation on sheet pile-supported slopes at irrigation structures remain limited. This study evaluates the influence of sedimentation on slope stability at the Tinggar Buntut Water Gate, Kali Sadar River, using the Rankine method and the finite element method. Soil parameters were obtained from BBWS Brantas, while the sediment thickness of 1.5 m was estimated and validated by comparing riverbed elevations derived from Google Earth Pro historical imagery between 2019 and 2025. Soil behavior was simulated using the Mohr–Coulomb model under existing and sedimented conditions. The results show that active earth pressure increased from 74.93 kN/m to 126.62 kN/m, while the safety factor decreased from 1.44 to 0.85. Numerical analysis also indicated that the safety factor decreased from 1.7342 to 1.4420, accompanied by an increase in deformation from 3.40 × 10?³ m to 9.06 × 10?³ m.

Study on the Rainfall–Reservoir Water Interaction Mechanism of Wading Landslides in Metamorphic Rock Areas

Rainfall and fluctuations in reservoir water levels are critical external factors influencing the stability of landslides along reservoir banks. This study investigates the Yetan Primary School landslide, which serves as a representative example of a metamorphic rock landslide influenced by reservoir conditions in Shiy...

Instability Mechanism of a Soil–Rock Binary-Structure Slope Under Rainfall Conditions

Rainfall-induced instability of highway slopes with a soil–rock binary structure may be strongly influenced by the hydraulic barrier effect of low-permeability shale. This study investigated the right-side slope along the D-ramp section from DK0+230 to DK0+660 at Deze Interchange on the Zhanhui Expressway, China. A two...

Hydroclimatic Context and Deterministic Stability of Weathered Limestone Road-Cut Slopes along the Maros-Bone Corridor, Indonesia

Road-cut slopes in tropical carbonate terrain are affected by the interaction of geometry, weathering, material strength, and seasonal water input. This study evaluated two weathered limestone road-cut slopes along the Maros-Bone corridor, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, using engineering-geological observations, laboratory...

Numerical Modeling of Unsaturated Soil Slope of Bukit Mewah Using Field Data of Soil-Water Characteristic Curves

Rainfall-induced instability is a major concern for unsaturated residual soil slopes in tropical regions, where porewater pressure and matric suction fluctuate rapidly under transient hydrological conditions. This study investigates the hydro-mechanical response of the Bukit Mewah slope in Selangor through a fully coup...
