Stylistic and Interpretative Considerations Regarding Gioachino Rossini’s Album Français: Presentation of a Forthcoming Volume

2026 · REVART · Vol 50, pp. 144-150 · 0 citations

Abstract

Abstract: This article offers a preliminary overview of the volume Considerații stilistice și interpretative în Album français de G. Rossini (Stylistic and Interpretative Considerations regarding G. Rossini’s Album français), authored by Veronica-Laura Demenescu and Cosmina Silvia Stitzl—a work currently in the pre-publication stage. The research focuses on the vocal-chamber repertoire contained in Album français, part of the extensive Péchés de vieillesse corpus, which represents a key body of work from Gioachino Rossini’s final compositional period. The volume aims to move beyond a purely analytical perspective on the scores by correlating musicological inquiry with aspects of performance practice, vocal technique, the text-music relationship, French pronunciation and prosody, and the interplay between the voice and instrumental accompaniment. Individual study of the pieces highlights the diversity of compositional and expressive styles Rossini brought together under the title Album français, while also revealing stylistic constants that allow the cycle to be understood as a coherent expression of his late aesthetic. The article outlines the research premises, methodology, and anticipated key findings, emphasizing the volume’s relevance to musicological research, performance practice, and vocal pedagogy alike.
