Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the linguistic and cultural features of phraseological units, considered through the prism of cultural codes, in the Ukrainian historical detective, the interest in the genre specificity of which has been maintained for many years. The material for the study was the novel by N. Sniadanko “The First Investigation of the Empress”, the genre specificity of which is determined by a two-level composition — a description of stunning detective stories related to the Habsburg monarchy of the 19th century and modern Lviv of the 21st century, united by a common artifact — Mozart’s violin. The purpose of the investigation was to study the features of the implementation of cultural codes in units of the phraseological level in the Ukrainian retro-detective. Thus, the object of analysis was phraseologisms in the literary text, and the subject was their linguistic and cultural semantics, actualized in various codes. It is proven that the objectification of ethnocultural semantics associated with mysterious attacks occurs with the help of phraseologisms that actualize such cultural codes as: somatic, representing the symbolism of body parts; vital-mortal, representing a person’s idea of life and death; objective, associated with objects that fill a person’s living space; theomorphic, determined by the religious beliefs of Ukrainians in God; anthropic, focused on the human factor itself; natural, attested mostly by archetypal names; spatial and temporal, associated with the chronotopic division of the world, and others. The analysis confirmed that phraseological units play an important role in the processes of linguistic objectification of reality, recording the centuries-old experience of the people, their mentality, covering primarily those areas that are directly related to man, his individual psychological qualities, beliefs, etc. Further research into Ukrainian phraseology, related to cultural codes, in a functional aspect (based on other literary, journalistic, Internet texts, etc.) seems promising. In addition, such research allows us to better understand the views of the author of the text on historical events with a detective plot.
