A bibliometric analysis of university based innovation ecosystem research in BRICS countries from 2000 to 2025
Abstract
The current research applies bibliometric analysis to 294 scholarly publications indexed in Scopus on UBIE (University-Based Innovation Ecosystems) among BRICS countries and beyond between 2000 and 2025. Utilizing VOSviewer and Biblioshiny for analysis, this paper examines the research dynamics within the selected period, citation networks, author productivity, keywords occurrence, and bibliographic coupling in the set under consideration. Results indicate the growth in publication rate after 2013, notable contributions from Chinese and Brazilian scholars, but relatively greater influence per published article from Finnish and Chilean researchers. In terms of theory, Triple Helix continues dominating in the analyzed field, while some new directions like Quadruple Helix, inclusive innovation, and digital transformation are emerging. This research highlights certain gaps in research related to governance models, socio-economic inclusion, and BRICS expansion in relation to university-driven innovation. Through creating a structured body of knowledge within the field of UBIEs, this analysis provides evidence-based advice for both researchers and policymakers regarding the development of university-industry-government interaction in emerging economies.
