Abstract

As a crucial device for electromechanical energy conversion, an electric motor serves not only as an electrical equipment but also as a mechanical device. In motor design, particularly for high-speed motors, attention should be paid to both electromagnetic characteristics and temperature rise characteristics, as well as to the design analysis of mechanical characteristics. Most permanent magnets are brittle materials that cannot withstand the centrifugal force generated at high speeds. Therefore, a protective sleeve is usually placed around the permanent magnet to ensure its safety during operation. This paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of commonly used materials for permanent magnet protective sleeves, conducts analytical calculations on rotor strength, and verifies the accuracy of finite element calculations using analytical calculations. Based on this, the finite element method is utilized to investigate the impact of different temperatures, thicknesses, and interference fits on rotor strength, ultimately determining the rotor design parameters.

Mechanical Strength Enhancement of a Speed Multiplier Magnetic Gear Using an Aluminium Bridge Modulator Rotor Structure

Operating electrical machines (EMs) at high speeds induces severe rotor stress and efficiency losses. A coaxial speed multiplier magnetic gear (SMMG) enables low-speed EMs to operate efficiently while achieving high output rotational velocities, thus avoiding the associated EM design penalties. In the SMMG topology, th...
