A wearable sensor-based intelligent trousers system for lower-limb motion monitoring and intervention
Abstract
Continuous monitoring of unconscious lower-limb behaviors, such as leg crossing and shaking, is vital for preventing musculoskeletal disorders. This paper presents a smart trousers system integrating screen-printed flexible pressure sensors and IMUs for real-time intervention. Unlike generic trackers, this system utilizes a multi-sensor fusion algorithm based on Zero-Crossing Rate (ZCR) and biomechanical thresholds to accurately detect specific maladaptive postures. Upon detection, dual-modal feedback (auditory/haptic) is triggered to disrupt the habit. A 10-day study demonstrates that the system significantly reduces behavior frequency during the intervention phase and promotes habit retention in the subsequent non-intervention phase. The results indicate that the intelligent trousers system provides a feasible solution for integrating wearable sensing, motion analysis, and real-time intervention into everyday garments, offering a promising platform for long-term lower-limb health monitoring and preventive applications.
