Abstract
For the long‐distance grid connection of offshore wind farms, high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems based on modular multilevel converters (MMC) are now the predominant technical solution. Although the MMC offers high voltage output capability, its reliance on a large number of continuously operating IGBTs renders it prone to faults. To address open‐circuit faults in IGBTs within MMC submodules (SMs) and ensure grid‐connection reliability, this paper employs a compound mutual inductance charge channel and a modulated wave reconstruction method after MMC faults. The fault‐tolerant control mechanism of the proposed method under typical fault conditions is thoroughly analyzed, which proves that the capacitor in the faulted submodule can be discharged by using this method. Additionally, this method operates independently of voltage and current sensor data, enabling sensorless operation. The results show that after two types of faults occur and the proposed fault‐tolerant method is employed, the voltage fluctuation rate of the submodule capacitors transitions from a divergent state to a stable fluctuation, with the fluctuation rate not exceeding 4.53%, and the THD of the output current is reduced by 93.82% and 98.12%, respectively. Comprehensive simulation and experimental studies substantiate the proposed method, confirming its feasibility and effectiveness.
In recent years, high penetrations of inverter-based resources are posing significant challenges to the medium-voltage networks, in which protection schemes based on high fault currents and unidirectional power flow may not perform as expected. This paper proposes a dynamic fault-detection and relay-coordination scheme...

: The deployment of grid-forming converters (GFMC) in weak-grid renewable energy stations can provide voltage support for grid-following converters (GFLC). However, the coupling between the two types of converters may cause the voltage-support capability of the GFMC to be constrained by its overcurrent capacity during...

To address the issues of excessive fault current, insufficient voltage support, and frequency oscillations in grid-forming converters during power grid short-circuit faults, this paper establishes a fault ride-through test model based on the principle of impedance voltage division and analyzes the fault transient chara...
To comply with grid codes, inverter‐interfaced distributed generators (IIDGs) are required to have low‐voltage ride‐through (LVRT) capability. However, their limited overcurrent capability compromises this critical requirement during fault events. This paper proposes an IIDG fault response regulation model with an adju...

The study of hybrid multiterminal high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems revealed different outcomes regarding their performance under fault conditions. Previous research showed that under the fault conditions, the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) voltage experienced a drop to zero, accompanied by a reverse overs...
