Abstract
Experimental data on methanol synthesis were obtained in a laboratory flow reactor over an industrial Cu/Zn/Al₂O₃ catalyst (Katalko 51-8) using fractions of 0.5-1 mm, 1-3 mm, and whole pellets (5×5 mm cylinders) at pressures of 31, 41, and 49 bar and temperatures of 200-270 °C. Based on the literature kinetics of Graaf et al. (1988, 1990) and a comparison of the modeling results for an isothermal laboratory reactor with experimental data in the kinetic regime, a two-stage thermodynamically consistent reaction scheme was selected, which includes methanol formation from CO and H₂ and the reverse water-gas shift reaction, along with the corresponding kinetic constants. A numerical analysis of the effect of intraparticle diffusion limitations on the apparent reaction rates was performed for the porous catalyst pellet using a parallel pore model and the proposed kinetics. The spherically symmetric boundary value problem was based on the Stefan-Maxwell equations for multicomponent diffusion, accounting for the contribution of Knudsen diffusion within the isothermal pellet. It was shown that at a pressure of 49 bar and with increasing temperature from 190 °C to 250 °C, the calculated effectiveness factor for the 5 mm industrial catalyst pellets decreases from 93% to 36% for the methanol synthesis and from 93% to 52% for the reverse water-gas shift reaction.
In this study, Co-Fe-B catalysts were synthesized separately in ethanol and aqueous media under ambient conditions using a chemical reduction-precipitation method for rapid and efficient hydrogen generation from sodium borohydride (NaBH4) hydrolysis. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesized cataly...

CO2 hydrogenation by reverse water–gas shift (RWGS) directly combined with subsequent Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) in a single fixed-bed reactor represents a promising route for converting renewable hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide into hydrocarbons. However, the attainable CO2 conversion is limited by thermodyn...

The research establishes an all-inclusive kinetic modeling framework which enables the optimal design of a multi-stage catalytic reactor system dedicated to methanol synthesis from CO2-rich syngas. The simulation makes use of the Vanden Bussche and Froment kinetic model on a Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst and it uses temperatur...

This study investigates the highly selective synthesis of ethanol from methanol, CO2, and H2 over a Ru-Co bimetallic catalyst, focusing on reaction condition optimization, kinetics, scale-up feasibility, and catalyst stability. The optimal reaction conditions were identified as 170 °C, a (CO + CO2)/H2 initial pressure...

In this study, a novel magnetic solid acid catalyst based on molybdenum oxide-impregnated copper ferrite was synthesized and applied to methyl transesterification from waste cooking oil (WCO). The catalytic solid was characterized by surface acidity, XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, and VSM techniques. A 24 face-centered central c...

This paper examines the scaling of a technology for the selective synthesis of high-molecular-weight C19+ hydrocarbons (synthetic waxes) from CO and H2 in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) process over a cobalt-aluminum-silica catalyst. Scaling was performed using a 6-meter tubular reactor at a pilot plant using natu...
