Abstract

We have synthesized three molecules based on the pyrazino[2,3-g]quinoxaline core, where each structure possesses pendant phenyl rings linked to terminal alkoxy substituents via a phenyl acetate group. The molecules are differentiated by the number of alkoxy chains present at their ends. Photophysical studies of the derivatives revealed high molar extinction coefficients and substantial Stokes shifts. They exhibited good thermal stability. The compound with three peripheral alkyl chains on each side of the symmetrical molecule PQE1 stabilizes the columnar hexagonal mesophase, but PQE2 and PQE3, with two chains per side (meta- or ortho-meta-positioned), exhibited crystalline phases. This emphasizes the role of alkoxy chain number and positioning in promoting mesophase formation in structurally similar derivatives. Cyclic voltammetry revealed comparable redox behavior of the derivatives. Experimental and theoretical analyses showed that they have similar band gaps. PQE1 has demonstrated hopping-assisted charge transport, exhibiting hole mobility in the order of 10-4 cm2 V-1 s-1 along with specific photoresponsive behavior to 450 nm light. These findings elucidate structure-mesophase relationships, guiding the design of liquid crystalline materials with tailored optoelectronic properties.

Tandem Synthesis and Photophysical Behavior of Pyrazolo[3,4‐ h ][1,6]naphthyridines: A Theoretical–Experimental Approach

A microwave‐assisted tandem synthesis of pyrazolo[3,4‐ h ][1,6]naphthyridines bearing substituents with diverse stereoelectronic character (i.e., alkyl, aryl, CN, and MeO) is reported. Products were obtained in good yields by reacting 5‐aroyl‐pyrazolo[3,4‐ b ]pyridines with malononitrile in methanol, where the ex...

Synthesis, structure, characterisation and preliminary CO2 reactivity of a family of heptazine-based Re(I) tricarbonyl complexes.

Heptazine derivatives are well known for their attractive properties in applications such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and flame-retardant materials. However, studies in this field have largely focused on fully symmetrically substituted heptazines. Thus, the coordination chemistry studies for those derivati...

Synthesis, Thermal Stability, and Ionic Conductivity of Phenyl-Extended Viologen Ditriflate Salts: Tailoring Properties via Oxyethylene Chain Length

Six new phenyl-extended viologen salts with oxyethylene groups paired with triflate anions (OTF) have been synthesized using anionic ring-opening and ring-closing reactions (ANRORC) and metathesis reactions with LiOTf salts. The salts, which contain terminal oxyethylene chains of varying lengths ((CH2CH2O) n , n = 1, 2...

Charge transfer characteristics in one- and two-photon absorption of dibenzothiophene derivatives: roles of pedal rotation and donor alkyl chain length

Dibenzothiophene (DBT)-based derivatives have attracted considerable interest for their excellent nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. However, the specific roles of configurational isomerization and alkyl chain length variation in modulating their NLO properties remain insufficiently understood. Herein, we employ densi...
