Abstract
Densities (ρ) and viscosities (η) of binary mixtures of cumene with pentan-1-ol and hexan-1-ol were measured over the full composition range at (298.15–323.15) K and 0.10 MPa. From these experimental data, excess molar volumes (VmE), partial molar volumes (V̅i), viscosity deviations (Δη), isobaric thermal expansivities (α) and their excess values (αE), and excess Gibbs free energies of activation for viscous flow (ΔG≠E) were calculated to elucidate the nature of intermolecular interactions. For both systems, VmE values were mostly positive, whereas Δη and ΔG≠E were negative, indicating disruption of alcohol self-association, volume expansion upon mixing, and reduced resistance to viscous flow. The magnitude of VmE increased with temperature but decreased with alcohol chain length, reflecting stronger dispersive contributions in the hexan-1-ol system. FT-IR spectra of equal-volume mixtures showed blue shifts (∼25–26 cm–1) in the O–H stretching band, confirming hydrogen-bond weakening and possible weak O–H···π interactions. Excess properties were well correlated by the Redlich–Kister equation, while the Jouyban–Acree model accurately represented ρ and η. Among the viscosity models examined, the Ausländer and McAllister four-body models provided the best performance.
The thermophysical behavior and molecular origins of dynamic viscosity (η) non-ideality in binary mixtures of acetonitrile (ACN) with six tertiary alkanolamines, namely dimethylethanolamine (DMEA), dimethylpropan-1-olamine (DMPA-1), dimethylpropan-2-olamine (DMPA-2), methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), ethyldiethanolamine (ED...

The apparent mole fraction solubility of glucono-δ-lactone (GDL) was determined by a gravimetric method in four binary solvent systems: water + ethanol, water + i-propanol, water + n-propanol, and water + acetic acid. The experiments were carried out at atmospheric pressure over a temperature range from 288.15 K to 3...

Ionic liquids (IL) and molecular solvents have been increasingly used in combination to design systems with improved physicochemical and electrochemical properties. This has been primarily achieved by overcoming the commonly viscous nature of pure IL systems through screening ionic interactions via the addition of a di...

A nonionic type V deep eutectic solvent (DES) combining hydrophobic (−)-menthol and hydrophilic resorcinol was prepared and investigated as a solvent for amphiphilic caffeine. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis were first used to determine the eutectic composition and characterize its ther...

Surrogate fuel mixture design and combustion process modeling are enhanced with knowledge of the physical properties of mixtures of fuel components. The current study reports densities, speeds of sound, and viscosities of mixtures of tetradecane with n-alkylbenzenes. In general, densities, speeds of sound, and viscos...
