Abstract

We introduce a broad family of groups $G(\Gamma)$ associated with transverse stratifications of moduli spaces. For a wide class of stratifications satisfying a natural local condition (transverse niceness), we construct a homomorphism from the fundamental group of the moduli space to the corresponding group $G(\Gamma)$. This general theorem, which is proved in the companion paper \cite{Manturov2026}, provides a far-reaching generalization of the $G_n^k$-theory. The main goal of the present paper is to discuss numerous examples and situations where the transverse niceness property actually occurs. We describe various moduli spaces and stratifications that are transversely nice. In particular, we study the hierarchy of configuration spaces of points in the plane defined by algebraic curves and establish the transversality property for conic configurations. The general hierarchy problem is formulated in the final section.

Global $\infty$-categories and global Thom spectra

We introduce a framework of (Lie-)global $\infty$-categories, which formalizes various families of $\infty$-categories indexed by compact Lie groups and equipped with suitable restriction functors along continuous group homomorphisms that occur naturally in equivariant homotopy theory and representation theory. As our...

Tangent discontinuity in the oper stratification of de Rham moduli spaces

Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective curve of genus $g$, and let $\mathcal{M}_{\mathrm{dR}}(X,r)$ be the moduli space of flat bundles of rank $r$. Over the stable locus, Simpson showed the oper stratification with Lagrangian fibers and asked whether these fibers are closed and fit together into a smooth foliation. Th...

Higher dimensional local class field theory

In this largely expository article we give an introduction to higher dimensional local class field theory, more precisely class field theory for smooth projective schemes over local fields. We begin with a quick summary of some of the main results of classical local class field theory. Then we explain the main definiti...

Quasimap critical cohomology, Coulomb branches, and quantum groups

This article presents a systematic study of the critical cohomology of $\QM^{\xi}(\bbP^1, X)$, the moduli space of based quasimaps from $\bbP^1$ to a Nakajima quiver variety $X$. We develop two derived equivalent presentations of this moduli space as a global critical locus. Accordingly, we obtain two equivalent explic...

Localization and Abelianization of Strings on Group Manifolds: The Non-simply Connected Case

We study the partition functions of Wess--Zumino--Witten (WZW) models with compact connected simple Lie group manifolds that are not simply connected. Starting from the modular-invariant partition function of Felder--Gaw\k{e}dzki--Kupiainen (FGK), we derive a localization formula, which can also be obtained directly by...

Moduli Spaces of Connections and B-fields from T-duality with H-flux

We study the geometry of mixed fields, consisting of a connection and a $B$-field on a principal circle bundle over a Riemann surface, from the perspective of gauge theory and T-duality. Motivated by the foundational work of Atiyah--Bott and Segal, we introduce a twisted Yang--Mills functional whose critical locus, in...
