Effect of Risk Management Committee Attributes on the Performance of Listed Deposit Money Banks in Africa
Abstract
This study explores the effect of risk management committee attributes on the performance of listed deposit money banks in Africa. An ex-post facto research design was employed, drawing on secondary data from selected banks in Nigeria, Kenya, and Zimbabwe that consistently reported financial statements from 2015 to 2024. Eight banks listed on the respective national stock exchanges were purposively selected for the study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and panel regression models. The findings reveal that RMCS has a significant negative impact on performance at the 5% significance level, while RMCI exerts a significant positive influence at the 1% level. The study therefore recommends that shareholders maintain an optimal RMCS and place greater emphasis on committee independence through the appointment of non-executive directors, as increased independence is likely to enhance monitoring effectiveness and improve banks’ financial performance in Africa deposit money banks.
