Abstract
Salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses limiting plant growth and agricultural productivity worldwide. This study investigated the effects of NaCl induced salinity stress on the in vitro growth of garlic (Allium sativum L.) plantlets derived from shoot tip culture. Shoot tip explants of Taşköprü garlic were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 0, 100, 200, and 300 mM NaCl. Shoot fresh weight (SFW), shoot dry weight (SDW), shoot length (SL), dry matter content (DMC), and infection rate were evaluated on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days of culture. NaCl stress generally reduced growth parameters in a concentration dependent manner. While 100 mM NaCl caused moderate inhibition, maintaining growth parameters at approximately 77-80% of control values, concentrations of 200 mM and above resulted in severe suppression of shoot growth and biomass accumulation. Shoot length exhibited the strongest linear response to NaCl concentration on the 28th day (y = -0.143x + 55.82; R² = 0.917), confirming its reliability as a salinity stress indicator in garlic. These findings confirm the salt sensitivity of garlic under in vitro conditions and demonstrate that shoot tip culture is an effective system for salinity tolerance screening. Shoot length and shoot fresh weight are proposed as key morphological indicators for evaluating NaCl stress responses in garlic.
ABSTRACT Osmotic stress severely limits the growth and yield of pea ( Pisum sativum L.). It is essential to identify the osmotic stress‐tolerant genotypes in early stages of growth for optimizing pea production under adverse conditions. This study aimed to assess osmotic stress tolerance in a diverse collection of vari...

Salinity is a major abiotic stress limiting rice production, particularly in semiarid regions. This study evaluated the effects of NaCl-induced salinity on growth performance and ion homeostasis of nine rice landraces from Kebbi State, Nigeria. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) wit...

Pea, which is the most important legume globally, is valued for its profitability and short growth cycle. However, increasing soil salinity threatens pea and other crops by reducing productivity. Bio-stimulants, such as Rhizobium sp. and seaweed extract, are compounds or microbes that are given to plants or the rhizosp...
Considering the destructive effects of alkalinity stress on plants and the important role of silicon in stress alleviation, this study investigated the effects of foliar-applied silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO₂-NPs) at 0, 2, and 4 mM, under alkalinity stress induced by NaHCO₃ at 0, 5, 15, and 30 mM, on hydroponicall...

Salt stress is an important environmental factor that negatively affects the growth and development of plants. The apple is one of the most sensitive plants to salt stress among fruit species. In this study, the tolerance of 'Hatay' clonal apple rootstock candidate to salt stress under in vitro conditions was investiga...
