Abstract

Intensive light culture of plants has become firmly established in practice and is used for year-round production of highquality plant products. Research into plant responses to specific conditions at the genotype-environment level is essential for developing optimised, adaptive technologies for growing various species and varieties under light culture. The objective of this research was to develop the foundations of a varietal technology for radish ( Raphanus sativus L.) production. The Peterburgskij fioletovyj radish variety was studied under intensive light culture conditions in a series of experiments at varying seeding densities (200 and 300 plants/m 2 ), harvest times (25-35 days from sowing), photoperiod durations (12 and 16 hours), and spectral composition of the light environment. The light sources were DNaZ-400 lamps and three original full-spectrum LED luminaires simulating natural light at different times of day: AFI-3000 with R:B (red:blue light) = 4.3:1 (the sun is close to the horizon), AFI-4000 with R:B = 2:1 (morning and afternoon light), and AFI-5000 with R:B = 1.2:1 (midday sunlight). The conditions closest to optimal for producing high yields of commercial radish root crops (up to 50 kg/m 2 per year) were achieved with a seeding density of 200 plants/m 2 , harvesting 25-30 days after sowing, both studied photoperiods (12 and 16 hours), and a light environment created by the AFI-5000 luminaire with the highest content of blue wavelengths in the spectrum.

Improving growth and productivity of cherry radish (Raphanus sativus L.) under sustainable treatments in a hydroponic system

Recycling fruit-processing residues as foliar bio stimulants may improve resource efficiency in hydroponic vegetable production. This study tested whether aqueous apple- and pear-peel extracts enhance the growth and productivity of cherry radish. The experiment was conducted at Research Station B, College of Agricultur...

Development of an Optimized Scale Propagation Protocol for Lilium LA Hybrid ‘Corona’ Under Subtropical Conditions

Lilium ( Lilium hybrida ) is one of the most important ornamental bulbous crops grown around the world; however, its commercial cultivation is constrained by the low multiplication rate of bulbs. Although scale propagation has been widely used for vegetative multiplication, most studies have been conducted under t...

Influence of Growing Media on Early Vegetative Growth and Flowering Attributes of Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium R.) Genotypes

Growing medium is a major determinant of root-zone aeration, water availability and nutrient supply in container-grown chrysanthemum, while cultivar-specific responses can modify the magnitude of these effects. A two-year investigation (2024-25 and 2025-26) at Banda, Uttar Pradesh, evaluated seven growing media across...

Comparative growth and quality performance of lettuce cultivars under hydroponic and soil systems

Traditional soil-based lettuce cultivation is limited by constrained space, soil-borne pathogens, variable produce quality and difficulties in achieving year-round production. Hydroponic systems present a viable alternative; however, comparative data on system–cultivar interactions under Nepalese conditions are limit...

Effects of Chamber Types and Cultivar on the Performance of Plantain Macropropagation Technology (Musa paradisiaca L.)

Plantain production is constrained by the limited availability of healthy, high-quality planting materials, making efficient and affordable propagation techniques important for sustainable production. Macropropagation provides a low-cost alternative to conventional sucker propagation and tissue culture; however, its pe...

Response of Watermelon Scions to Dynamically Adjusted High and Low Blue/Red LED Light Ratios

Watermelon is an important vegetable crop cultivated worldwide with significant nutritional and economic value. Due to its susceptibility to soilborne pathogens, grafted seedlings are highly preferred. Robust scions are a prerequisite for the quality of the grafted seedling. Seedling production in a plant factory with...
