TL;DR

It is demonstrated that totiviruses function as virulence-promoting symbionts in Pt, establishing for the first time a functional link between totiviral infection and enhanced pathogenicity in cereal rust fungi and identifying candidate targets for RNAi-based disease control.

PtRTP1, an Effector of Puccinia triticina, Contributes to Virulence in Wheat

Effector proteins are key virulence factors of obligate parasitic fungi during infection. Wheat leaf rust by Puccinia triticina is a widespread destructive disease drastically limiting wheat production, while the biological role of its effector is still elusive. PtRTP1 is a homolog of Uf-RTP1p, one of the earliest effe...

Nuclear transfer of a beneficial fungal effector-host target complex via the NTF2 pathway underpins symbiont-induced plant immunity.

This work shows that this functionally essential nuclear transfer process of the SIE141-CDSP32 complex is mediated by the host NTF2 proteins, and provides a potential strategy for engineering plant immunity by manipulating NTF2-RanGTPase dependent nucleocytoplasmic transport.

A Modular Fusion Protein Strategy Confers Broad-Spectrum Resistance Against Phytophthora infestans, Alternaria solani, and Ralstonia solanacearum

Findings show that modular domain assembly combined with linker-mediated modular combinatorial optimization represents a powerful engineering strategy for achieving broad-spectrum disease resistance, offering a promising approach to simultaneously control oomycete, fungal, and bacterial pathogens of plants.

The bZIP transcription factor PnAda1 functions as a regulator of virulence, fungicide tolerance and necrotrophy in the wheat pathogen Parastagonospora nodorum

It is shown that the understudied bZIP transcription factor PnAda1 is an important downstream component of this PnPf2-regulatory network, and current understanding of the transcriptional network underlying virulence, metabolism and stress adaptation in an important fungal wheat pathogen is expanded.

The Conserved Guanyl‐Specific Ribonuclease T1 Effector EC19 Is Required for Full Virulence of the Vascular Wilt Fungus Fusarium oxysporum on Tomato

Plant fungal pathogens secrete a plethora of effectors into host cells to facilitate their infection by interfering with the normal physiological processes of the host plant. However, the role of guanyl‐specific ribonuclease T1 effector protein in the virulence of fungal pathogens remains largely unexplored. Here, we s...
