TL;DR
This review critically evaluates recent advances in nitrogen- and oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds, including imidazolidine, quinoline, triazole, quinoline–triazole hybrids, and other hybrid pharmacophores, as promising antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and antivirulence agents and emphasizes the integration of medicinal chemistry, computational drug discovery, and experimental validation to accelerate the development of effective therapies against MDR and biofilm-associated infections.
The alarming rise of life-threatening microbial infections has intensified the search for novel broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents. Imidazole, a versatile nitrogen-containing heterocycle, has emerged as a privileged scaffold due to its diverse biological activities, including antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer...

Antimicrobial resistance is an urgent global public health threat, killing at least 1.27 million people worldwide and associated with nearly 5 million deaths. Antibiotic resistance has been recently recognized by the WHO as a global health emergency. In this scenario, the research and development of novel derivatives...

Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli remain major concerns in global public health, posing clinical challenges due to their adaptability, virulence, and biofilm-mediated persistence. The continued emergence of drug-resistant strains necessitates the development of new antimicrobial compounds. In this study, we ev...
Mechanistic study showed that 24a effectively inhibits biofilm formation and exerts its antibacterial effect by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, paving the way for new strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance.
