Endothelin-1 Gene Polymorphisms and their effect on endothelin-1, interleukin 6 and 18 concentrations in diabetic-hypertensive patients with coronary artery disease
Elevated ET-1, IL-6, and IL-18, along with ET-1 polymorphism, suggest synergistic genetic-inflammatory mechanisms in CAD progression among diabetic-hypertensive patients and multi-marker profiling improves early CAD detection.
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate serum endothelin-1 (ET-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-18 (IL-18), and ET-1 gene polymorphism (rs5370) in CAD patients with diabetes and hypertension.
Methodology: This prospective case-control study included 100 CAD patients with DM/HTN and 100 healthy controls. Biomarkers were quantified by ELISA; rs5370 was genotyped via ARMS-PCR.
Results: CAD patients had significantly higher ET-1, IL-6, IL-18, and hsCRP (p<0.001). TT genotype of rs5370 was patient-specific and linked to higher biomarker levels. Combined biomarker panel showed strong diagnostic accuracy (AUC=0.93).
Conclusion: Elevated ET-1, IL-6, and IL-18, along with ET-1 polymorphism, suggest synergistic genetic-inflammatory mechanisms in CAD progression among diabetic-hypertensive patients. Multi-marker profiling improves early CAD detection.
INTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with increased cardiovascular and renal risk, highlighting the need for early biomarkers such as IL-18 and renalase. METHOD: Cross-sectional study including 63 individuals (26 T2DM and 37 controls). Clinical, glycemic, lipid and inflammatory parameters were as...

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasingly recognized as a chronic low-grade inflammatory disorder in which immune dysregulation contributes to insulin resistance and disease progression. Interleukin-9 (IL-9), a pleiotropic cytokine of the common γ-chain family, has recently been implicated in metaboli...

Background: Vitiligo is a chronic immune-mediated depigmenting disorder accompanied by both hyperactive inflammatory and autoimmunity pathways. Objective: To evaluate the serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-17 (IL-17), and tumor necrosis factor-A (TNF-A) in vitiligo patients, determine the correlation of...
