Abstract
Summary Developmental dyslexia (DD) is associated with deficits in visual motion perception and eye movement control, yet little is known about these processes at the pre-reading stage. We investigated motion perception and eye movement behavior in thirty-four pre-reading children (aged 4–6 years) during action video game Fruit Ninja (FN) play and rapid automatized naming (RAN) performance. FN and RAN scores were significantly correlated (r = 0.54, p = 0.001), suggesting a link between motion perception and object naming ability. While peripheral vision enabled faster fruit slicing (t = 11.28, p < 0.001), foveating objects was more predictive of FN and RAN performance. Children exhibited shorter reaction times for detecting right visual field (RVF) objects (t = 3.22, p = 0.003), aligning with adult findings. These results highlight the role of motion perception in reading development and support the potential of motion-based interventions for early reading difficulties.
This study explores the association between eye movement profiles and cognitive performance in older adults during reading‐based tasks in virtual reality in virtual reality.

This study investigated the relationships among visuomotor integration, executive functions, lexical access, and reading performance in schoolchildren at risk for dyslexia. Twenty-five third-grade students aged 8–9 years completed measures of rapid automatized naming, naming errors, self-monitoring, reading comprehensi...

Word decoding as a foundational reading skill is significantly associated with phonological awareness in children with typical development as well as children with intellectual disabilities. Phonological awareness is often assessed using traditional behavioral methods, which may underestimate abilities, particularly in...

Selective attention, the ability to focus on relevant information while ignoring task-irrelevant information, is crucial for learning. Selective attention has largely been studied in motionless individuals. However, body movements are intrinsic to cognition and particularly frequent in children. To test whether movemen...

Understanding reading in video games can help harness their potential for reading training and learning. The current eye-tracking study examined subtitle reading in two role-based task modes (Player vs. Viewer) among first-language (L1) and second-language (L2) readers. Ninety-two participants read subtitles while alte...

Background Vision plays a crucial role in guiding and anticipating movements. In individuals with cerebral palsy (CP), a condition characterized by disorders of movement and posture attributed to disturbances of the developing brain, Cerebral Visual Impairments (CVI) are common. CVI involves difficulties with organizin...
