TL;DR

The results of myopia and myopic astigmatism correction using CLEAR Supra and FemtoLASIK technologies are comparable, and both technologies are predictable, safe, and effective.

Abstract

Purpose. To conduct a prospective comparative study of the early results of myopia and myopic astigmatism correction using CLEAR Supra technologies and FemtoLASIC. Material and methods. This singlecenter, prospective study included 56 patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism who underwent surgery at the Gazprom Eye Microsurgery Clinic, Moscow from March 2025 to April 2025. Group 1 consisted of 34 patients (68 eyes) who underwent laser correction using CLEAR Supra technology on the LDV Z8 femtosecond laser platform (Ziemer); Group 2 consisted of 22 patients (44 eyes) operated on using FemtoLASIK technology using the same femtolaser unit and the SCHWIND Amaris 1050 excimer laser (SCHWIND). The average age of patients in the 1st group was 28.9±6.4 years, and in the 2nd group it was 29.4±6.4 years. The spherical component in the 1st group was –3.5±1.5 diopters, and in the 2nd group it was –3.9±2.6 diopters; the cylindrical component in the 1st group was –0.63±0.6 diopters, and in the 2nd group it was –0.55±0.5 diopters. The central corneal thickness (CCT) in the 1st group was 551.4±28.7 μm, and in the 2nd group it was 541.4±27.7 μm. The maximum corneal curvature in the 1st group was 44.1±1.6 diopters, and in the 2nd group it was 44.5±1.3 diopters. Results. UCVA on the 1st day after surgery in the 1st group was 0.93±0.1, in the 2nd group 1.1±0.2; spherical component in the 1st group 0.1±0.3, in the 2nd group –0.01±0.3; cylindrical component in the 1st group –0.3±0.6, in the 2nd group –0.2±0.4. The level of high-order aberrations in the 1st group (RMS in the 5 mm zone) 0.43±0.2, in the 2nd group 0.44±0.3, respectively. The level of contrast sensitivity increased by 43.9±15.9% in the 1st group and by 49.3±18.1% in the 2nd group. There were no intraoperative complications in the early postoperative period in either group. Conclusion. The results of myopia and myopic astigmatism correction using CLEAR Supra and FemtoLASIK technologies are comparable. Both technologies are predictable, safe, and effective. Enhanced predictability and axis precision of SMILE Pro, a retrospective analysis of myopic astigmatism correction.

SMILE Pro using the VISUMAX 800 femtosecond laser provides safe and predictable correction of myopic astigmatism with good axis alignment, however, the observed undercorrection in higher cylinders suggests that further optimization of astigmatic nomograms may improve refractive accuracy.
