Personalized and Adaptive Neurocognitive Healthcare Systems

Sep 2026 · Advances in computational intelligence and robotics book series · 78 references

Abstract

The nature of neurocognitive diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and dementia, is progressive and varied, making it challenging and requiring sophisticated and patient-centered healthcare approaches. In this chapter, we examine adaptive and personalized neurocognitive healthcare systems which incorporate artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), wearable monitoring technologies and assistive technologies to facilitate continuous monitoring, early diagnosis, and personalised care. It considers the contribution of adaptive mechanisms, such as context-aware and closed-loop systems, to automatically respond to patient needs. It discusses the role of assistive technologies in promoting patient independence, safety and wellbeing. Scalability, privacy, ethical and user acceptance issues are critically examined. Additionally, future prospects for smart neurocognitive healthcare systems are discussed through emerging concepts such as digital twins, federated learning and explainable artificial intelligence (AI).
