Abstract
This critical autoethnographic study examines how the systemic absence of Black male educators in predominantly White institutions (PWIs) impacts the identity development of both students and teachers. Drawing from 15 years of reflection and teaching artifacts, the study is grounded in culturally sustaining pedagogy, abolitionist teaching, and Ewing's theory of educational haunting. Hip-hop texts frame four themes: racial absence, cultural mismatch, teaching as resistance, and radical return. The concept of cultural trust is introduced as a framework for relational healing, calling for a shift from exclusionary schooling to affirming, justice-centered educational spaces.
