Artificial lift systems represent a critical component of production operations in large onshore oil fields with high well counts and aggressive production targets. Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESPs), while offering high production capacity, are sensitive to operating envelope excursions, flow instabilities, and degradation mechanisms that can impact both production efficiency and run life. This paper presents the results of a multi-phase field pilot evaluating an integrated digital workflow that combines physics-based ESP models with data-driven failure prediction and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) analytics. The evaluation was conducted on more than 100 ESP-lifted wells in a mature, high-rate onshore oil field in the Middle East. Results demonstrate measurable production uplift, improved surveillance efficiency, and enhanced early warning capabilities for ESP reliability, while also highlighting limitations associated with data quality and failure diversity.
Electrical submersible pumps (ESPs) are one of the most effective artificial lift methods for increasing hydrocarbon production in high-rate wells; however, free gas in the production stream frequently causes issues such as gas locking, reduced pressure head, increased mechanical wear, and eventually pump failure, part...

Flow instability caused by free gas interference and solids production is one of the primary threats to ESP reliability and run life in mature, depleted reservoirs. In the T Sandstone reservoir of Villano Field, Ecuador, the combination of high gas-liquid ratio, low bottomhole pressure, and active sand production cre...

Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) operating in unconventional reservoirs are exposed to complex and highly dynamic conditions driven by multiphase flow behavior, solids production, and chemical interactions. These factors can result in system instability, leading to reduced hydraulic performance and accelerated equip...
