Abstract
As the size of tail-sitter electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft increases, significant challenges have arisen due to a lower thrust-to-weight ratio, more nonlinear aerodynamics during transition, and slower control response. To support the design and implementation of the flight control system for the large-scale tail-sitter eVTOL Eagle of Taihu 100 (ET100), a one-third-scale, 13 kg subscale technology demonstrator, ET10, was developed. This article presents the control framework tailored for the ET series. In this framework, a refined state-error-based model predictive control (MPC) scheme is proposed. By reformulating the translational dynamics, the coupling between translation and rotation is explicitly captured. Aerodynamic feedforward and efficiency-aware control allocation are integrated to mitigate model uncertainties. A PX4 software-in-the-loop (SITL) platform was constructed by integrating data from computational fluid dynamics (CFDs) simulations and experiments to ensure a high-fidelity aerodynamic modeling. Flight simulations were first conducted to evaluate the improved algorithm in terms of tracking performance across various tasks. Next, flight tests of the ET10 were conducted, demonstrating the reliability and robustness of the scheme across the full flight envelope.
A modular, high-fidelity simulation framework for the development and benchmarking of flight control strategies in fixed-wing aerial robots operating near the ground that models full 6DoF rigid-body physics, semi-empirical ground-effect aerodynamics, actuator dynamics, sensor noise, and environmental disturbances.

The take-off phase of civil aircraft represents one of the stages with the highest risk and the most complex dynamic characteristics throughout the entire flight process. The pilot must manually input sidestick commands in an open-loop manner to control the aircraft’s pitch rate, which places the workload on the pilot....

For high-precision drag-free (DF) space missions, the accelerometer drag-free mode (ACC-DFM) is a critical transitional phase with stringent time-domain control requirements, enabling spacecraft to enter the scientific measurement mode. However, achieving such performance is constrained by disturbances, measurement noi...

Rolling motion in airframe missiles improves gyroscopic stability but may also induce control coupling and oscillatory responses that reduce flight stability. This study aims to design and evaluate a harmonic control strategy for the R-Han 122 surface-to-surface missile by integrating MATLAB and X-Plane 10. A numerical...

Abstract Tilt-tri-rotor (TTR) VTOL unmanned aerial vehicles demand precise, robust control across takeoff, hover, and transition phases regimes where conventional fixed-gain PID controllers critically fail under parametric variations and external disturbances. To overcome this fundamental limitation, this work proposes...
