TL;DR

Recording neuronal populations across three cortical regions using silicon probe arrays in spontaneously seizing C3H/HeJ mice provided direct evidence for their proposed basis in cortical hypersynchrony and provided evidence that SWD-associated reductions in firing rate could be attributable to co-occurring behavioral immobility rather than to the seizures themselves.

Responsiveness of cerebral cortex to hippocampal inputs depends on brain region and brain state

Low-amplitude gamma, rather than strong gamma synchronization, constitutes a favorable substrate for communication between brain areas, and is argued to be a favorable substrate for communication between brain areas through communication-through-coherence hypothesis.

Traveling waves along the cortical depth reflect structured synaptic inputs

Traveling waves (TWs) are widely observed in the brain and are thought to play multiple functional roles, yet what LFP traveling waves represent remains unclear. Using translaminar recordings in macaque V1 and V4, we observed local field potential (LFP) TWs that were modulated by sensory experience, but no correspondin...

Selective gating of neural modulation through frequency- and behavior-dependent modes during cortical electrical stimulation

By identifying how stimulation frequency governs the mechanism of neural engagement and how behavioral state selectively gates brain-wide entrainment but not local inhibitory recruitment, the results provide a mechanistic foundation for designing targeted, reproducible neuromodulation strategies.

The cerebellum exploits a thalamic carrier frequency to refine motor behaviors

Despite enabling nearly all cerebellar-cortical communication, how the thalamus processes and interacts with cerebellar activity remains unclear. We found a pronounced 1-5 Hz (delta) rhythm in the thalamic membrane potential and cerebellothalamocortical local field potentials during nonmoving periods in behaving mice....

On variability in local field potentials

Neuronal variability is a fundamental feature of neuronal coding. In spiking activity, across-trial variance (ATV) normalized by mean spike count (i.e., the Fano factor) shows stimulus-induced quenching. ATV has also been studied in electro/magneto-encephalography (E/MEG) without normalization, revealing effects of sti...
