Abstract

We present a fixed-alignment platform for delivering single photons directly in fiber using chip-integrated nanowire quantum dots. Emission from III–V nanowire quantum dots is evanescently coupled to silicon-based integrated photonic circuitry. Fiber arrays fixed to the chip are used to efficiently and reliably couple light on- and off-chip allowing for plug-and-play operation of multiple sources on the same chip. We demonstrate plug-and-play in-fiber single photon collection efficiencies of ηeff>1.6% from multiple devices on the same chip with multiphoton emission probabilities as low as g(2)(0)=7.2%. Device performance was robust against multiple cooldown cycles and stable over tens of hours of continuous operation. Such fiber-coupled single photon sources will be a key resource required for distributing quantum information in future quantum networks.

Single-Photon Nonlinearity from a Nanobeam with a Quantum Dot

An efficient single-photon nonlinearity is a key resource for photonic quantum technologies. Single-photon nonlinearities have been demonstrated with quantum dots (QDs) across a range of cavity and waveguide geometries. However, none of these realizations simultaneously provide high-efficiency direct fiber coupling and...

Indistinguishable single photons from a quantum dot in a nanopost cavity

Wavelength-tunable sources of single photons are key devices for scaling up optical quantum technologies. In this context, individual quantum dots (QDs) embedded in broadband photonic nanostructures are particularly appealing. The nanopost cavity, which is built with a segment of photonic wire, offers a rare combinatio...

Deterministic nanofabrication for engineering nanowire quantum dot devices

Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are a leading platform for realising bright, wavelength-tunable sources of single and entangled photon pairs for photonic quantum technologies. Site-selected nanowire quantum dots (NWQDs) are a promising platform for fabricating such photonic devices in a scalable manner. However, imple...
