Abstract
This paper aims to argue that, under typical developmental conditions, syntactic productivity is grounded in embodied cognition, emerging primarily through the vocalization of human praxis within a causally structured world. The core claim is that the mapping from action structure to clausal structure follows a specific pattern: causal graph motifs in motor planning map onto predicate-argument templates in perisylvian networks via learned alignment. This mapping is operationalized by specifying how motor planning circuits scaffold combinatorial encoding in LIFG and LSTG. Non-action semantics, including complementation, quantification, and abstract concepts, emerge through metaphorical extension and conventionalization of action-based templates. While alternative pathways exist, such as statistical learning from text, embodied praxis represents the typical ontogenetic pathway. The paper generates falsifiable developmental predictions, addresses cross-linguistic typology and clinical dissociations, and outlines implications for cognitive psychiatry. This perspective grounds intelligibility in the synchronization between body, action, memory, and objective causality.
This article asks under what conditions artificial intelligence could warrant a rational attribution of consciousness. Linguistic ability, multimodality, memory, planning, action control, and humanoid embodiment are not sufficient evidence of phenomenal experience. Biological precursors such as excitability, homeostasi...
Counterfactual reasoning-the ability to construct scenarios that contradict known facts-is central to complex human cognition. However, little is known about how such reasoning unfolds in languages like Mandarin Chinese, which lack explicit morphological markers for counterfactuality. In this study, we used a discourse...
Bilingualism research sits at the intersection of linguistics, cognitive neuroscience, and psychology, yet these
disciplines often operate in relative isolation, limiting explanatory power and theoretical progress. This paper argues that
deeper, more purposeful cross-fertilization among these fields is both possibl...

Abstract Child-directed speech (CDS) is widely theorized to provide a structured scaffold for early language acquisition, yet the semantic properties of this register remain insufficiently quantified. In particular, it remains unclear how figurative language and semantic grounding interact within caregiver input to sta...

I am grateful to the authors of the commentary articles for identifying productive points of pressure for any neurocomputational account of syntax: whether semantic interpretation can proceed without a full syntactic derivation; how dynamical motifs are selected and coordinated; whether proposed mechanisms generalize a...
