Simulation Analysis of Drilling Cuttings Stirring Flow Characteristics and Blade Optimization Based on EDEM

Abstract

As a byproduct of drilling operations, the efficient treatment of drill cuttings is crucial to environmental protection and cost control. To solve the problems of pump blockage, low stirring efficiency of feed pry ribbon and uneven material flow caused by material adhesion and uneven accumulation in drill cuttings recovery, this paper compares the effects of three different ribbon structures on the movement behavior of drill cuttings particles in the mixing tank based on EDEM discrete element simulation. The simulation process adopts a particle magnification strategy to improve the calculation efficiency, and conducts comparative analysis from aspects such as particle discharge trend, motion trajectory, and average speed. The results show that the double-layer spiral ribbon structure performs best in terms of comprehensive mixing efficiency, which provides an important theoretical basis for the design and optimization of the blades of the drill cuttings mixing device.

Design and Manufacturing of Defect-Free PumpCasings: A Numerical and Experimental Approach

Internal shrinkage defects often occur in sand-cast gray cast iron pump casings, particularly in areas with abrupt thickness variations where heat dissipation is limited. These defects form during the final stage of solidification when isolated liquid metal cannot be properly fed. In this study, the solidification beha...

Multi-Objective Optimization of Annular Flow Structure for Coring Drilling Tools in Ultra-Deep Wells

Conventional coring drilling tools suffer from suboptimal annular flow design, leading to excessive pressure loss and hydraulic torque in ultra-deep well coring operations. To address this issue, we propose a systematic multi-objective optimization framework for the annular flow structure of single-acting double-tube c...

Statistic Reability Test of Nozzle Geometry for Oil Well Hole Cleaning from Produced Sand

Sand production is a major operational challenge in the upstream oil and gas industry, leading to perforation blockage, equipment erosion, and increased non-productive time (NPT). This study investigates the optimization of upward-facing nozzle jetting technology to improve sand cleanout efficiency in oil wells. The re...
