Whereas the effect of monotonically decaying memory kernels on reaction dynamics has been studied extensively, the effect of oscillatory memory, observed for widely different systems, is much less explored. We analyze non-Markovian barrier-crossing dynamics in the presence of a single exponentially decaying oscillatory friction memory kernel by simulations and analytical theory. We identify three scaling regimes: two in which the mean first-passage time $\tau_{\mathrm{MFP}}$ scales quartically and linearly with the memory kernel decay time $\tau_{\mathrm{o}}$, respectively, and a third in which $\tau_{\mathrm{MFP}}$ scales quartically with the oscillation period $\tau_\varphi$ of the memory kernel. Our results are relevant to a broad class of many-body dynamical systems such as dihedral isomerization processes and chemical reactions in solvents.
Let $(\xi_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be a continuous-time Markov process taking values in a countable state space $E$. We consider $k$ copies of $\xi$ started from distinct positions, and write $X = (X_t)_{t \geq 0}$ for the resulting process of configurations in $E^k$. We compare two forms of interaction between the particles: th...
We develop a spectral theory for dynamical large deviations in non-Markov jump processes and non-Markov chains, whose dynamics depends on the past through state- and jump-dependent empirical observables. We demonstrate that a multiscale Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin-Jeffreys (WKBJ) Ansatz separates fast configurational rel...
Strongly interacting quantum many-body systems subjected to non-Markovian dissipation pose a formidable challenge due to the interplay between strong correlation effects and memory effects. In this Letter, we develop a general theoretical framework to compute how a system observable responds to dissipation, which captu...
We present a quantum algorithm for simulating classical oscillator networks characterized by non-Markovian dissipation and time-varying material properties, extending recent speedups for undamped harmonic systems to viscoacoustic and viscoelastic media. We embed the history-dependent dynamics into a Markovian state spa...

We investigate a discontinuous route from integrability to chaos using a confined stochastic random walk and a deterministic stadium-like billiard. In both systems, the stationary diffusive observable exhibits a finite jump at the transition: it vanishes at the unperturbed limit but approaches a finite, geometry-contro...

The overdamped approximation is widely used to describe Brownian motion in complex environments, but its validity becomes nontrivial when the friction coefficient itself fluctuates in time. We investigate this problem by comparing underdamped and overdamped Langevin dynamics subject to the same fluctuating friction and...
