TL;DR

This report provides an overview on the service development framework in general and a first comparison across services to share early insights from two central support mechanisms: requirement analyses and incubator projects as a format for embedding services into real-world disciplinary workflows during the Integration phase.

Abstract

Base4NFDI provides a structured development framework for basic services within Germany's National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). It meets the challenge of building interoperable, reusable services across 26 discipline-specific consortia without mandating top-down adoption. The framework guides services through three phases: Initialisation, Integration, and Ramp-Up. Each phase comes with distinct goals and support mechanisms. With services at various stages of maturity across all three phases, a growing body of practical experience is emerging. This report provides an overview on the service development framework in general and a first comparison across services to share early insights from two central support mechanisms: requirement analyses as a means of grounding service design in evidence during the Initialisation phase, and incubator projects as a format for embedding services into real-world disciplinary workflows during the Integration phase.

Towards a Capability-Driven Conceptualization of Digital Twins

Digital Twins (DTs) are increasingly used across the lifecycle of complex systems, yet DT engineering still lacks a clear way to move from domain goals to technology-agnostic specifications. Existing work has clarified definitions, architectures, and data pipelines, but offers less guidance on how to express what a DT...

Involving before Evolving: A Vision for Trustworthy Enterprise Digital Twin Engineering

Enterprise Digital Twins (EDTs) promise data-driven decision support at organizational scale, but realizing them requires navigating siloed departments, tacit knowledge, and high-stakes decisions with long-horizon consequences. Existing approaches involve domain experts during model development but focus less on early...

A FRAMEWORK FOR ENGINEERING DATA MIGRATION AND PLM INTEGRATION IN GLOBAL MERGER & ACQUISITION (M&A) ENVIRONMENTS

Engineering data migration and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) integration are major challenges in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), particularly when organizations consolidate heterogeneous CAD systems, metadata, product structures, and engineering practices. This paper presents a scalable, validation-centered framew...
