Abstract
This article argues that Russell's paradox can be solved by amending the theory in a zigzag fashion. The first part of the article sets out several reasons why this kind of revision to Frege's system is preferable to other solutions. More specifically, we argue that the extensionality function implicitly described by Frege's Basic Law V is inconsistent due to the domain being specified too liberally. This feature generally follows from the interaction between classical first-order logic and the unrestricted right-to-left conditional of the abstraction principles. We therefore suggest weakening the former in negative free logic and introducing a syntactic restriction on the right-hand side of Basic Law V. We then formalise the amended system and investigate its derivational strength.
The paper presents the most important assumptions of Henryk Elzenberg’s formal axiology concerning the concepts of ought and obligation. For this purpose, the formal language of deontic logic was used. In this language, the HE theory was presented, which was characterized both from the syntactic and semantic side. Usin...
The Russell‐Myhill paradox targeting the structuralist view of proposition in classical higher‐order logic is blocked by implementing restrictions associated with an ordinary account of predicativity. However, it has been shown that these restrictions are not safe: “revenge” versions of the paradox show the inconsist...
In this note, it is shown, following up on a conjecture of Joyce Friedman and David Warren in 1980, and in contrast with what is commonly assumed, that the reduction of applied λ-terms in Richard Montague’s intensional logic does not need to conflict with other possible reductions. For a confluent reduction, one only n...
This paper offers a comprehensive and critical examination of Bertrand Russell's theory of descriptions as articulated in On Denoting (1905) and P. F. Strawson's response in On Referring (1950). Russell's logical analysis aims to resolve puzzles of non-referring expressions by treating definite descriptions as quantifi...

This paper compares two approaches to intensionality within possible-worlds semantics between which Montague seems to have wavered: Frege’s distinction between extensional and intensional environments and Russell’s one-layered proposition-based account. It is shown that the Fregean framework can be embedded within the...
