Integrated Geospatial Analysis of Watershed Morphometry, Terrain Characteristics, and Hydro-Geomorphological Processes in the Brahmani Watershed, Western India

Abstract
Remote sensing and GIS have become necessary to understand the watershed
activities and for the sustainable management of land and water resources.
This becomes all the more essential in areas where the rocks are hard, porosity
is low and rock formation affects groundwater and erosion. Geospatial
technologies have advanced in the recent years, still watershed studies
involving terrain-hydrological assessments are limited in Rajasthan because
of its diverse physiography. The present study aims to assess the Brahmani
River watershed of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. This study presents an
integrated hydro-geomorphological framework by combining DEM-derived
morphometric parameters with multiple spectral indices (NDWI, NDMI, and
EWI) to evaluate watershed behaviour and groundwater recharge potential in
a semi-arid watershed of western India. For watershed analysis and
delimitation NASA SRTM Landsat 8 - OLI/TRIS imagery was used for 30m
resolution.

Site-specific planning of water harvesting and soil and water conservation (SWC) measures is important for improving water availability and watershed resilience in semi-arid regions. This study aimed to identify and prioritise suitable locations for SWC structures in the 43 km² Maliwadgaon watershed of Chhatrapati Samb...

Watershed degradation from human encroachment is a worldwide phenomenon and a keystone driver of erosion, transport and deposition of sediment material into downstream lakes and other water bodies. Despite global recognition of the growing scale of these linkages, comprehensive evaluation and ranking of the range of sp...
Mountain watersheds in the Mediterranean region are highly susceptible to land degradation because steep slopes, variable rainfall, erodible substrates, and human pressure interact to accelerate runoff and sediment production. This study used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and multi-temporal Landsat imagery to as...

Groundwater is vital for ecosystems and livelihoods in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Ethiopia, dubbed the “water tower of Africa.” Despite its significance, many areas face water scarcity due to data scarcity and an uneven distribution of resources. The Baro River watershed, covering over 23,000 km2 in Southweste...
Soil erosion within reservoir watersheds can degrade land resources and mobilise sediment through drainage networks, making spatial identification of erosion-prone areas important for watershed management. This study assessed the magnitude and spatial distribution of soil erosion in the Gubi Dam watershed, northeastern...
