Abstract
Multi-phase Buck converters are extensively utilized for powering high-performance integrated circuits. However, under phase-overlap operation, conventional single-phase equivalent circuit derived from non-overlapping assumptions become inadequate, hindering straightforward system analysis and compensation design. Taking Current-Mode Constant On-Time (C-COT) control as an example, this paper investigates the relationship between the total duty cycle and the total inductor current in the power stage under overlap condition. A unified single-phase equivalent circuit is then proposed. The core innovation lies in the introduction of a controlled voltage source in series with the inductor branch, whose magnitude is uniquely determined by the input voltage and the number of overlapping phases. Based on this model, the system’s small-signal characteristics are derived. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed single-phase equivalent circuit is validated through simulations, providing an intuitive and efficient tool for parameter optimization in multi-phase overlapping scenarios.
