Abstract

The objective of this study was to explore the classroom activities teachers promoted for active learning. Altogether thirty college teachers who had been teaching for at least one year were taken as the source of data. The respondents have taught different subjects at the bachelor's level. Among them, twenty participants were male, and the rest were female. The teachers were selected using the convenience sampling technique. A questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument, which contained a five-point Likert scale and closed-ended statements. There were three parts in the questionnaire. The first section, with eight questions, was about participants' personal information, including age, gender, educational background, field of study, teaching experience, and current teaching level. The second section, with 18 questions, focused on teachers' classroom activities that promote active learning. A five-point Likert scale was used in this part. The third section, with thirteen questions, was about the frequency of using active learning activities in the classes.  At the end, a closed-ended question was distributed to obtain the opinion of the respondents on using active learning in the classroom. The questionnaire was presented to the research advisor for its validity and reliability before sending it to respondents. They were distributed to the participants through a direct link. They accessed the questionnaire on the same day, and respondents sent the completed questionnaire back to the researcher. The return rate was one hundred percent. The data from the respondents included background information and classroom activities performed by the teacher for active learning. Using the Microsoft Excel software, descriptive statistics were computed as percentages and means. The research ended with the finding that teachers are aware of active learning and students’ involvement in academic activities, despite the lack of ample modern technological facilities.
