A Feminist Study of Patriarchy in Nizar Qabbani’s "Journal of an Indifferent Woman"
Abstract
The present study tackles a subject which, during the 20th century, became a field of literary productions which try to liberate females from the shackles of males through depicting the images of discrimination, dehumanization and marginalization from which females suffer in patriarchal societies. It is divided into four sections and a conclusion. The first section is an introduction which produces feminism, gives some definitions to it and traces its origin. The second section is devoted to patriarchy and concentrates on the aspects of male’s domination on females. The third section tackles aspects of Patriarchy in Nizar Qabbani’s "Journal of an Indifferent Woman" where history and the misunderstanding of some religious instructions come to be the reasons of females suffering. The fourth section illustrates some media of patriarchy such as discrimination, objectification and oppression. They are illustrated through some lines of verse which are supposed to be composed by the persona of a poem. Then comes the conclusion which summarizes the results which the study reaches.
