Abstract

This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the postoperative visual acuity and overall patient satisfaction of three groups of patients who underwent cataract surgery. A total of 56 patients and 67 eyes were evaluated and divided based on the type of intraocular lens (IOL) implanted. The evaluation consisted of examining visual acuity at far and intermediate distances preoperatively and postoperatively. On the 30 th postoperative day, contrast sensitivity was evaluated using the Pelli-Robson chart, and all patients completed a questionnaire addressing patient satisfaction at far and intermediate distances, dependence on spectacles, occurrence of halos and glare, and driving difficulties. The present study highlights a clinically relevant intermediate vision advantage of the Evolux™ enhanced monofocal IOL over a standard monofocal IOL while maintaining comparable distance visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. Although extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOLs provided superior intermediate visual acuity, they were associated with lower contrast sensitivity and more frequent photic phenomena in this cohort. The study highlights that enhanced monofocal IOLs may represent a useful compromise between the limited intermediate vision of conventional monofocal lenses and the optical trade-offs associated with EDOF lenses. Larger prospective studies with standardized patient-reported outcome measures and longer follow-up are warranted.
