The Impact of Worker Remittances on Economic Growth of Pakistan: An Evidence from an ARDL Model

Aug 2026 · Kashmir Journal of Academic Research and Development · Vol 2, pp. 173-178 · 0 citations

Abstract

This paper studies the dynamics between workers’ remittances and economic growth of Pakistan for the period 1990-2022 by employing Autoregressive Distributed  Lag model. The model also includes control variables such as inflation, gross capital formation, trade openness in addition to remittances. The long-run estimates reveal that the remittances have direct and statistically significant effect on per capita growth of GDP, whereas trade has significant indirect long-run relation. The error correction term was negative and significant, validating convergence towards long run equilibrium. The results support continued policy focus on remittance-facilitating channels as a lever for economic growth in Pakistan.
