TL;DR

It is suggested that reinfection may occur in specific populations, particularly in specific populations of Chikungunya virus, during the 2024–2025 outbreak in Reunion Island.

Abstract

Abstract Chikungunya virus infection is considered to confer prolonged immunity. During the 2024–2025 outbreak in Reunion Island, we identified a confirmed and a probable reinfection in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. These findings challenge this paradigm, underly a complex pathophysiology, and suggest that reinfection may occur, particularly in specific populations.

Emergence of Oropouche Virus, Venezuela, 2025

We describe 5 cases of human Oropouche virus infection detected in rural Venezuela in 2025. All isolates belonged to the OROVBr2015–2024 reassortant lineage linked to the 2024–2025 epidemic. Our results emphasize ongoing transmission, which highlights the need for strengthened surveillance and laboratory capacity in So...

Cocirculation of Human Monkeypox Virus Clade 1b with Varicella Zoster Virus, Uganda

In July 2024, we reported information on the initial human mpox cases in Uganda. Genomic characterization of clinically suspected cases (July–December 2024) revealed cocirculation of several monkeypox virus clade 1b clusters and varicella zoster virus. Our findings highlight the need to refine differential diagnoses by...

Hantavirus: comprender el reservorio para prevenir la enfermedad

When a case of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) is diagnosed, the process that led to that infection began much earlier. Disease in humans represents the final link in a complex chain of interactions between the environment, the wildlife reservoir, the virus, and human activities. Understanding this chain is...
